NHS Lanarkshire Bowel Screening Programme

October 10th, 2009

NHS Lanarkshire are currently running an awareness campaign and will be sending out self-testing kits to all 50-74 year olds (over 90% of people diagnosed with bowel cancer are in this age group). Bowel cancer is the 2nd biggest cancer killer among men and 3rd among women yet if caught soon enough there is a 90% survival rate. As part of the awareness programme there will be a meeting on Wednesday 25th November 2009 at 7pm in the village hall where Eddie Docherty of NHS Lanarkshire will be talking about the awareness programme, the benefits of participation and will also be available to answer any questions. More information can be found online at www.bowelscreening.scot.nhs.uk

Halloween Party 2009

October 2nd, 2009

There will be a Halloween party in the Village Hall on Friday 30th October between 6pm and 8pm. There are 50 children’s tickets available and will be issued on a first come first served basis. Children living in the village are free but will still require a ticket. Any visitors are also welcome but will be asked to pay a contribution of £1.50 each to help cover costs. In order to be fair to all, tickets will be restricted to 4 per household. Tickets are available from Christine MacKenzie (870797) or Jane MacConnell (870260). No unaccompanied children please. We would also be very grateful for as much help as possible such as baking and help setting up the hall beforehand and also clearing up afterwards.
