Digital Switchover

The date for the digital switchover from Analogue to Digital TV services for Pettinain is April & June 2011. We have arranged for a representative from Digital UK to attend the Pettinain Village hall on Wednesday 27th May at 7:30pm to supply any information or answer any questions you may have.

Poppy Appeal

Volunteers are required to distribute poppies for this year’s poppy appeal. If anyone could volunteer, could they please contact a member of the Community Council.

Speeding

Residents have worked hard to make the Pettinain community safe for all. Part of this was the successful implementation of a 30 mph speed throughout the whole village. Could we remind all residents that speeding in the village is dangerous to all, especially children. This is especially so in a village where there is a lack of proper pavements.

Ring’n’Ride

This service is for rural communities with limited public transport. The bus operates Mondays to Saturdays between the hours of 0700 and 1800, and Sundays between 0900 and 1800 hours. Bookings can be made up to 2 hours before journey is required but one days notice is preferred. Bookings can be made by calling 0845 123 5047. Village Hall

The hall is available for private hire and public events. Please contact the Hall Keeper, Janet Watson for further info (01555 870091). At present the following regularly takes place :
Badminton – Not currently running. If anyone would like to help start this again, can they please let a member of the council know. A Disclosure Scotland clearance is required.
WRI – Every 3rd Wednesday. Contact Ann Murray (01555 870379)
Bowling – Every Thursday
Community Council – Bi-monthly. Contact one of the members for information or see local press. Anyone wishing to attend is most welcome. The next scheduled meeting will be held on May 27th at 6:30pm. All residents are welcome.

Gala Day & Barbeque

This year’s Gala Day and family barbeque will take place on Saturday 13th June, starting at 13:00 in the playing field. This year we have arranged a falconry display. Last year was well attended and hopefully this years will be just as successful!

South Lanarkshire Councillor

Beith Forrest, one of the areas local councillors (and Deputy Provost of South Lanarkshire) holds a surgery on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 6pm to 6:30pm in the Village hall.

Crime

Lanark Police meet monthly with all Community Councils regarding local concerns of anti-social behaviour and crime. Caroline Prentice is representing Pettinain Community Council. National Spring Clean Campaign

Keep Scotland Beautiful’s 2009 National Spring Clean campaign runs from 1st through to 30th April 2009. “The annual month-long blitz on the litter that scars our streets, parks, riversides and beaches began on 1st April but Keep Scotland Beautiful is still looking for people to restore their sense of community pride and clean up their neighbourhoods for themselves and visitors to our country. All volunteers need to do is choose a date in April, gather some friends, family or neighbours and register the event at www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/springclean.”

Litter/Fly Tipping

There have been reports of residents dumping grass cuttings in the burn. Please remember that this could cause the burn to become blocked and flood. If you require any rubbish or garden waste to be uplifted, South Lanarkshire will do this for free. They can be contact either by completing an online form at SLC website (www.southlanarkshire.gov.uk) or by calling 01698 717777. Fly tipping has also become a problem in the local area. Anyone seen doing this should be reported to SLC or the Dumb Dumpers on 0845 2304090 along with their car registration.
